BEHIND THE LENS
"I'm just a guy telling stories."
Scott Hamilton is an Australian filmmaker and photographer who started out his career as an electrical engineer in broadcast television. Realising the error of his ways, and that production crew had a lot more fun than "techies", he ventured back to university to study film & tv production. During the course of his studies, Scott was able to secure regular work as a professional camera operator and lighting technician, but he was more drawn to the role of writer/director as a way of unleashing his creative nature. His passion was to create his own stories.
After graduating, he made a number of award-winning short films, with one in particular, the comedy "PRETENTIOUS", attracting the eye of acclaimed cinematographer, and Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) Hall of Famer, Ron Johanson, acs. Scott spent the next year working for Ron at the highly-respected ROLY POLY PICTURE COMPANY making television commercials, developing a reputation for comedic TVC's, and being able to obtain great performances from child actors.
It was during this time that Scott commenced work as a tertiary level film & tv lecturer, being sought after by a number of Australian film schools and universities. He's currently a Senior Film Lecturer at SAE University College (Brisbane Campus), specialising in teaching screenwriting, directing, and cinematography. Addtionally, he's a member of SAE's National Course Commitee which is responsible for ensuring the film degree meets both national education standards and film industry demands.
More information about Scott's short film directorial and feature film screenwriting success can be found in the FILMS section.
